Windows Task Scheduler event log monitoring

We need to be able to monitor the disposition of Windows Scheduled Tasks. This means being able to check the event logs. While we have event log checking, it is not comprehensive. e.g.: I cannot check the Applications and Services>Microsoft>Windows>TaskScheduler>Operational> event log to see that my backup got terminated due to a switch to battery power during the backup. It is necessary to either selectively add this ...more »

Change metrics used to measure whether a service is started

Add the WMI "State" parameter to be used when checking for whether a Windows Service is started. Currently, if a Windows Service is in a "Starting" state, it will show as started in N-central. This can cause issues when a service is stuck in a starting state, however, everything will report as OK in N-central. N-central is currently only looking at the Started, Start Mode and Status metrics. If you use the State parameter, ...more »

We can install the agent on a desktop OS and instruct it to install in Server mode for greater flexibility, but cannot do the inverse. We have several cases where we want to use a Server OS in a less critical environment, and don't want the extra monitoring costs or features.

Which means we can either have the check automatically restart if it is "stopped" or have it alert after a number of check failures. For example if a check ...more »

Linkages with Logiccards, Updates Management and Reboot

Consider this scenario: A java vulnerability is found and a logiccard is shown to state that there is an insecure version of Java on the endpoints. The endpoints listed on the card are then targeted for the latest Java update via Patch Management. The current patch management settings are set to auto install every day at 7pm with no reboot, however a reboot is required. This then signals the machine on the dashboard ...more »
